Clinical pilates is a safe and evidence-based approach to treating pain and dysfunction. It consists of a highly individualised program with specific exercises prescribed based on your body’s preferred direction of movement to improve your stability, balance, control, posture and overall function. By discovering and exercising in the correct direction, the body begins its therapeutic recovery. Immediate improvements can be seen post-session in terms of flexibility and control.
Common conditions that can benefit from clinical pilates
Clinical pilates is used to treat a wide range of injuries and conditions, ranging from lower back pain, chronic pain and can also be used to treat hyper-mobility and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Why Clinical Pilates At BFit?
1. BETTER FOCUSED RESULTS THAN REGULAR PILATES CLASSES
The clinical pilates sessions are led by qualified physiotherapists who have done post-graduate training in DMA Clinical Pilates. The instructors have not only have 4 years of university training in anatomy, physiology and injury management, they are also trained in what is known as “clinical reasoning”. At BFit, our physiotherapist will perform a thorough individualised assessment before enrolling our clients to a clinical pilates program. This is to evaluate areas of weakness which need to be focused on. From here, exercises are gradually introduced, with a high value placed on proper technique and a good understanding of which muscles are being targeted. The exercises prescribed are safe, effective and minimises the risk of injury re-aggravation. Your physiotherapist will also be able to modify your exercise program to account for flare ups or changes in your injury. The exercises can be prescribed at any level suitable for any age group.
2. SMALL CLASS SIZE
All our classes are kept to a maximum of 3 people per group, ensuring that you receive adequate supervision and attention, in order to monitor technique and prevent injury.
3. ENJOYABLE YET CHALLENGING
Pilates principles and equipment allow for a huge variety of exercises, meaning a specific, postural focus can be implemented in combination with general core strength and fitness benefits.
You don’t need to have an injury to attend Clinical Pilates. Many clients come to keep fit and healthy, enjoying the personalised attention that a small class size allows. It gives them a peace of mind to know that they are performing the exercises correctly under supervision while also getting adequate progression in regime over time.
